Welcome Address by The Vice Chancellor at The Investiture Of Chancellor And Inauguration Of Governing Council

WELCOME ADDRESS BY THE VICE CHANCELLOR CAPITAL CITY UNIVERSITY, KANO, PROFESSOR SADIQ ZUBAIR ABUBAKAR, FNSE, FNIAE AT THE OCCASION OF HIS INVESTITURE OF THE CHANCELLOR AND INAUGURATION OF THE GOVERNING COUNCIL OF THE UNIVERSITY HELD AT CAPITAL CITY UNIVERSITY DAWAKI CAMPUS, KANO ON SATURDAY 8TH JANUARY 2022.

PROTOCOL

In the name of Allah, the most beneficent the most merciful. I am highly delighted to first welcome distinguished personalities and all invited guests to this very historic event of the investiture of the pioneer Chancellor and Governing Council of Capital City University, Kano. 

On behalf of the University administration, I equally congratulate the people of Kano, the North and the nation at large for having some illustrious sons and daughters who conceived and promoted the birth of another private university in this part of the country with very clear mission of narrowing the educational and intellectual gap. I join all to pray to the Allahu SWT to reward them abundantly and sustain their resource and efforts in pursuing this noble goal. 

The University has a focus of finding a niche in the competitive panorama of global knowledge economy. The University is a conventional model with innovative set up in terms of structure and content. This institution is geared towards producing a generation of future leaders with entrepreneurial skills suitable for job creation and problem solving.  CCU is an equal opportunity institution which abhors discrimination against students and other potential clients on basis of status, race or creed. The main objective of the institution is to place humanity as the focus of the learning objectives, respective for moral ethics that promote learning activities targeted at solving humanity problems..

The University operates a slim-administrative style and a capital-intensive system for enhanced efficiency and alignment with global best practices. The university has assembled renounced academics and put in place dynamic and contemporary curricula supported with responsive pedagogical approaches and guided by NUC standards including quality assurance. The university has provided modern learning and teaching facilities comparable to what is obtainable across the globe. This is in addition to the provision of ultramodern modern diagnostic centre that will provide training and services. 

Presently at take-off the university has been licenced to run 17 academic programmes located in the faculties of Science & Computing, Allied Health Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences. All the take-off academic programmes were selected based the university priorities for societal needs, national skill gap, graduates’ employability and global competitiveness.  

Capital City is conventional University but at the takeoff it is commencing with 12 academic programmes in sciences and computing to be delivered from six (6) academic Departments under one Faculty of Sciences and Computing. It is envisaged that the pioneer academic programmes, departments and faculty would lay a solid foundation for the steady expansion into other critical areas of the societal needs like Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering, Agriculture, Management Sciences, Education and Humanities.

The institution has state of the art teaching and learning facilities with robust ICT installation where blended/e-learning is a dominant feature. The orientation of delivery is majorly ICT supported with Smart room, Server room and e-library.

The university statutory and administrative organs have been carefully composed with eminent and qualified personalities with relevant experiences necessary for effective and efficient delivery of their mandates.

The philosophy of Capital City University is to be a centre of excellence for teaching, learning, research, and moral orientation that shall produce completely sound-nurtured men and women who are excellent in learning, possess necessary skills and knowledge; and are worthy in learning and character so as to be useful to themselves and to society.

The philosophy of the proposed University is also to provide teaching and research that shall serve and encourage best practices in its theoretical and practical programmes and projects. To attain these aims, the proposed University shall combine core academic teaching with civic studies, as well as entrepreneurial skills so as to inspire students to imbibe hard work, commitment, integrity, service, and innovation for national development and patriotism. This shall stimulate close alliance and partnership with the private sector for national development.

On behalf of the Chancellor, the Governing Council, the University Management, Staff and the prospective students, friends and well-wishers of the Capital City University I well everyone to this joyous and memorable event. I pray everyone here would return home safely.
